About Leanne

Leanne Campbell, PhD is co-developer of Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) and co-author with Susan Johnson of the first basic EFIT text, A Primer for Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT): Cultivating Growth and Fitness in Every Client (Routledge, 2022) and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Trauma (Guilford, 2026). She contributed as well to the second edition of Becoming an Emotionally Focused Therapist: The Workbook (Routledge, 2022) with her insights surrounding the application of EFT in working with trauma both individually and relationally (with individuals and couples). She is Vice President of the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT), a Registered Psychologist in the province of British Columbia, and an international speaker, writer, trainer and co-author of various other EFT-related educational programs and materials. In addition to providing psychological services to hundreds of individuals, couples, and families over the past about three decades, Dr. Campbell provides trainings in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to professionals around the globe.

Dr. Campbell is honoured to share her work with therapists committed to deepening their capacity to move clients toward a felt sense of emotional security—the central aim of Emotionally Focused Therapy. Her teaching and clinical orientation are rooted in the belief that meaningful change occurs not through technique alone, but through the
therapist’s ability to create safety, presence, and attuned responsiveness within the therapeutic relationship.

Dr. Campbell’s work invites clinicians to continually grow their skills and expand their therapeutic repertoire so they can more effectively support individuals, couples, and families in restoring secure bonds – with themselves and with the people who matter most. She emphasizes the experiential heart of EFT, helping therapists refine how they track emotion, work with core attachment needs and longings, and support clients in accessing moments of felt safety that reorganize relational experience from the inside out.

With a deep respect for the courage it takes for clients to risk vulnerability, Dr. Campbell brings a thoughtful, compassionate lens to clinical practice and training. She supports therapists in holding complexity with clarity, slowing down emotional process, and
staying grounded and present when working with high-stakes relational pain. Her approach reflects a commitment to both clinical rigor and human tenderness – honouring the nervous system, the attachment bond, and the transformative power of secure connection.

Through her teaching, Dr. Campbell encourages therapists to see EFT not simply as a model to apply, but as a way of being with clients—one that fosters safety, coherence, and emotional resilience across the lifespan and across relational systems.
